Having lived in Bangkok from early 2017 to the end of 2021, I’m confident I can offer you some solid advice!

Now, let’s dive into the recommendations!

where to stay in bangkok for couples

1. Riverside

The Riverside area of Bangkok, encompassing parts of Sathorn, Bangrak, and Samphanthawong, runs along the Chao Phraya River.

Staying here means you’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city, with many top-tier hotels housed in impressive skyscrapers.

In the evenings, you can relax with a cocktail at one of the many rooftop bars offering breathtaking views.

Generally, the Riverside caters to couples and families, with a few exceptions.

One minor drawback is that the BTS line serves the southern parts of Riverside, while the metro covers the northern areas. This means there isn’t a direct public transportation connection.

Fortunately, many hotels provide complimentary tuk-tuk rides to the nearest stations.

Traveling by boat is also convenient, with the main pier nearby. From there, you can easily reach major temples and the Grand Palace.

Overall, Bangkok’s Riverside offers some of the most romantic experiences in all of the city thanks to its views and laid-back atmopshere.

2. Silom

Just east of Riverside lies Silom, a favorite spot for tourists visiting Bangkok.

While it might not offer the same stunning Riverside views, Silom has plenty of perks. It’s a hub for sightseeing, with major attractions nearby, and it boasts direct access to both the BTS (SkyTrain) and MRT (Metro).

Silom does have a red-light district known as Patpong, which draws a specific type of tourist. However, this area is somewhat tucked away and isn’t immediately noticeable unless you’re specifically seeking it out.

Like Riverside, Silom features a range of exciting rooftop bars where you can enjoy a sunset and a finely crafted cocktail.

Despite being Bangkok’s financial district, Silom offers a wide range of hotels to suit all budgets.

Its convenient transportation, along with a vibrant dining and nightlife scene, makes it a top choice for couples looking to explore Bangkok.

3. Rambutri Road

Rambutri Road connects to the bustling Khao San Road, a hotspot for backpackers across Southeast Asia.

While Khao San Road is famously loud, Rambutri Road is quieter but still lively. It’s a vibrant area, but if you’re not into the party scene, you might want to consider other options, even though many young couples enjoy the energetic vibe here.

Khao San Road offers a unique experience—think tuk-tuk rides, cheap clothes, refreshing coconut drinks, and street food like Pad Thai, albeit not the best quality.

If comfort is a priority for you as a couple, it’s best to look elsewhere.

One downside is the lack of direct access to public transport. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are within walking distance, and Chinatown isn’t too far either, but navigating the city can be a bit challenging.

The nearest BTS station is Phaya Thai, which, despite being relatively close, can take about forty-five minutes by taxi during busy times.

So, if you choose to stay here, be prepared for that trade-off.

4. Siam

While Siam might not be the most romantic area in Bangkok for couples, it’s a highly convenient place to stay.

Siam is a key hub with connections between two BTS lines, making it incredibly easy to reach various parts of the city. This modern district boasts several impressive shopping malls where you can find every major brand imaginable.

The malls in Bangkok are always bustling, thanks to their excellent store quality, diverse dining options, and the all-important air-conditioning.

Siam is effectively the heart of Bangkok, offering quick public transport access. However, its nightlife scene is rather subdued. A short ride on the BTS Sukhumvit Line will take you to Thonglor, where you can explore a variety of trendy bars perfect for couples.

Tip: For couples with a short stay in Bangkok, consider staying around Siam and Phaya Thai. The latter has a direct connection to the Airport Rail Link, making it easy to reach Suvarnabhumi Airport.

5. Asoke

Asoke, like Silom, is a favorite among sightseeing tourists, thanks to its connections to both the BTS and MRT lines.

With the MRT Line extension, you can now easily reach major tourist spots like Chinatown and the Grand Palace. When it comes to mobility, Asoke is one of the best areas to stay in. Plus, it’s close to Thonglor and Ekkamai, vibrant neighborhoods known for their trendy bars and unique restaurants.

The main downside of Asoke is its proximity to Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, which are known for their red-light district scenes.

For couples visiting Bangkok, it might be best to steer clear of hotels frequented by mainly single, rowdy guests. Opting for higher-end hotels in Asoke can ensure a more serene experience, helping you enjoy a romantic stay in one of Asia’s most captivating cities.

6. Lower Sumhumvit

If you’re on a tighter budget, Lower Sukhumvit is a great option for couples. Neighborhoods like Thonglor, Ekkemai, Phra Khanong, and On Nut offer good quality hotels, often with amenities like swimming pools, at reasonable prices.

The further you move from the main attractions, the more affordable the hotels become. However, as mentioned earlier, staying close to a BTS Station—each of these neighborhoods has one—ensures quick and easy travel.

For instance, getting from On Nut to Siam takes less than fifteen minutes. You’ll save a significant amount on accommodation while enjoying a more residential, less touristy area, though you’ll find plenty of ex-pats living here.

7. Phloen Chit & Chit Lom

Phloen Chit and Chit Lom are the final recommendations for couples, offering a luxurious experience that’s a stark contrast to Lower Sukhumvit. Here, you’ll primarily find upscale hotels.

Situated between Asoke and Nana, these neighborhoods are home to some of the most opulent shopping malls in the Sukhumvit area. Both have their own BTS stations, making getting around effortless.

If you’re seeking absolute luxury as a couple, these areas are hard to beat. Just be prepared for a higher price tag.
